Is The Church Relevant Post-Covid?
Written by Shannon Carroll
It seems I’ve heard a lot recently from friends and other pastor’s wives about how their churches took a hit during covid and have never really recovered. Many are considering closing their doors now. 😢 This breaks my heart.
I think there are a few reasons for this phenomenon. For one, several people got out of the habit of attending church during those six to eight weeks of initial lockdown. That blip of a time out of church was all they needed to jump out of the church routine.
Also covid did completely change our mindset and culture. An activity now has to be super valuable for us to commit to getting out of our house to attend. 😉 And a lot of people decided that their church life just wasn’t that valuable.
Now part of the fault lies with the majority of American churches. If your church has struggled to grow post-covid, you might want to reevaluate your church. Is your church preaching strong truth that has the power to change lives today? If not, people don’t have interest in wasting their time coming to fluff church.
When the priorities are right within a church and the truth is being boldly proclaimed, people will want to attend. There will be a contagious excitement. The connections with other believers will mean something incredibly special and will offer a respite from the wearying rush of the world. Church can be such a powerful part of our lives, as God intended in His perfect design of this institution.
The enemy wants to water down the effectiveness of God’s Bride in these last days, which is why we are encouraged to “not forsake the meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but all the more as you see the day approaching…” Hebrews 10:25
There is a desperate urgency to be meeting together regularly with other believers in a church setting IN PERSON. The world is coming for us and if we aren’t united with others believers and grounded in truth, we are open prey for deception and falling.
Church can grow even in difficult times – that’s the testimony of our church! We are stronger, larger, more enthusiastic about the Lord and each other now than we were before the pandemic. Look what the Lord has done! 🙌
Wake up, Church! The world needs you! ❤️ ✨
